Sponsored
by the Evans Library, Florida Institute of Technology
and
The Link Foundation
Each
academic year since 1999 the Link
Foundation has provided funding for the Evans
Library to support the Link Scholars Program. Selected students (Link Scholars) work
on projects aimed at extending the services and
the reach of the Library Information NetworK (LINK)
in disciplines germane to the interests of the
Link Foundation, including aeronautics, energy,
marine science, oceanography, ocean engineering
and instrumentation, and simulation and training.
Program History
2006 to present
The Link Foundation has decided to focus their funding for the time being on the Link Digitization Project, which was started last year (2004-5) by the Link Scholars. Additional funding to continue this project was also received from Ms. Marilyn Link and Dr. Andrew Clarke. This year's funds will be use to purchase a commercial database management system to provide better online access to the Edwin Link files and papers.
2004-2005 Program
Four highly qualified students were selected from among many undergraduate and graduate student applicants as the 2004-2005 Link Scholars, and to participate in the Edwin A. Link Digitization Project, an ongoing project sponsored by Ms. Marilyn Link, Dr. Andrew Clarke, and the Link Foundation. These Link Scholars, Yannick Berger, Toni Francis, Benjamin Mathieu and Reshmi Nair, worked with the Digitization Project team leader, Remi de la Garde De Saignes, to digitize and expand access to the Library's Edwin Link Collection, a special collection of print articles, blueprints, books, correspondence, maps, newspapers, pamphlets, and photographs that reflects the contributions and interests of Edwin Link. The scholars were also involved in the development, processing, quality control, and content management of this collection. They also helped in the redesign, development, and editing of the Edwin Link Bibliography webpage.
