2003-2004
Program Highlights
Program
Plan
This
was the fifth year the Link Foundation has funded
the Link Scholars Program. Four talented
students, selected through a competitive proposal
and interview process, each received $2000 stipends
to extend the services and reach of the Library
Information NetworK (LINK) in the disciplines
germane to the mission of the Link Foundation
including aeronautics, energy, marine science,
oceanography, ocean engineering and instrumentation,
and simulation and training.
As
in previous years, undergraduate and graduate
students were encouraged to seek nominations from
faculty and to submit proposals. Winning proposals
were selected by a panel of faculty according
to the Criteria for Evaluation
of Student Proposals , posted below. Each
Link Scholar worked under the direction of an
academic faculty member and a library faculty
member to accomplish the outcomes listed on the
posted Project Outcomes
Guidelines.
Faculty
and students who took advantage of the one-on-one
sessions with Library faculty and staff, course-integrated
instruction, and research workshops were continually
amazed at the richness of resources and services
on the LINK. However, there are still some
teaching and research faculty and students who
were unaware that information of great value to
them has been organized on the LINK and is just
a mouse click away. The 2003-2004 program
goal was to extend awareness to the Florida Tech
academic community of the wealth of these LINK-based
information resources that have been researched,
evaluated, and collected over the past five years
by prior Link Scholars. The 2003-2004 Link
Scholars accomplished this through targeted presentations,
seminars, and instructional sessions; advertising
in the campus newspaper, the campus TV, and the
faculty and students' listservs; and through the
creation and distribution of brochures, flyers
and other promotional materials.
