Link
Scholar Positions - Link Digitization Project
Application
Deadline: November 15,
2004
Evans
Library has four (4) Link Scholar positions available
for technically gifted and highly qualified Florida
Tech students interested in participating in a
grant-funded digitization pilot program. These
positions will be active through the Spring 2005
semester. Project outcomes will increase accessibility
and awareness of the Library's Edwin
A. Link Collection, to the benefit of researchers,
students and librarians worldwide. Link Scholars
will gain first-hand experience in collection
digitization, management and electronic distribution,
and will advance their project management skills
by working with other qualified Florida Tech students
and faculty.
Evans
Library maintains this special collection (consisting
of print articles, blueprints, books, correspondence,
maps, newspapers, pamphlets, photographs, etc.)
that reflects the contributions, interests and
life of visionary and entrepreneur, Edwin A. Link.
Over the years the Link family has donated, and
continues to donate, materials that document Edwin
Link's career, most notably his work in undersea
exploration. These resources complement the Link
collections held at SUNY Binghamton, the Roberson
Center for the Arts and Sciences, and the Link
aviation collection held by the University of
Texas at Dallas .
Student
participants will contribute to the development,
processing, quality control, and content management
of the collection. They will also redesign and
edit the contents of the current Edwin Link Bibliography
webpage, http://www.lib.fit.edu/pubs/linkbib/index.html.
Students will document project outcomes and the
digitization process for future endeavors.
Florida
Tech undergraduate and graduate students interested
in applying for one of these positions should
submit a completed Link Scholars Program application
form and resume to the Evans Library before the
deadline, November 15, 2004. Interviews will be
scheduled following the review of applications.
Application
form, job description, and project requirements
and outcomes, are available on the LINK, http://www.lib.fit.edu
