Suggesting a New Site to the LINK
Thank you for taking the time to suggest a new site for the LINK. One of the most important features of the LINK is the description that accompanies each site.
This short guide will help you to write an effective description about your suggested site(s). A good, original site description ensures that each LINK Internet resource can be more thoroughly utilized by all users. By following the ACCESS process, you can help us continue to write effective site descriptions for our users.
Analyze your audience and their interest in the site you are suggesting.
· Remember the primary audience of the LINK is Florida Tech faculty, staff, and students.
Compile key information the site offers to the potential user. Think about abstracting a short summary to the user about the site and why it is a good resource (i.e. the "who cares" factor). The following areas are good places to compile a summary.
· Headings
· Site maps (table of contents)
· Keywords (meta tags)
· Introductions
· Summaries
Compose your description (approximately 25 words). Here are some things to keep in mind that may prove useful.
· Use variety in word choice (what are the related key words in your field)
· Use acronyms and their extensions
· Relate the site to applicable academic programs at Florida Tech
· Include authors and dates if applicable
Evaluate your description for accuracy and grammar. (It might be a good idea to write your description in Word and then copy/paste it to the LINK). Also, ensure that your description is objective and original.
Submit your site to the LINK.
Support the LINK. Again, thank you for your time in the continued development of this valued resource.
