Live chat allows you to ask in real time questions that you would normally ask a reference librarian in person. Questions should generally be concerned with your university studies, research, projects, and using the library resources and services. The normal session is less than 15 minutes.
To start your chat, please enter the information requested on the
right hand side of
your browser window.
Session Guidelines:
Enter your email address and use the Exit button to receive a complete transcript, including all chat and
links to Web sites visited during your session.
Use Internet Explorer; Mozilla or Firefox; Netscape 4.79, 7.1 or 7.2; and have "session cookies" enabled in your
browser.
Disable or reconfigure your firewall (Norton Internet Security, etc.) or you may not be able to see chat from
the librarian after you connect. Check these instructions on how to configure it to work with our service . Remember to re-enable the firewall after the session is over!
If you do not want to disable the firewall, you may be unable to see the librarian's chat and vice versa, so, please try to
be thorough when asking your question. You will receive an email response shortly afterwards.
If you use Windows XP and have Service Pack 2 installed, you must configure it to work with our software in order to chat with the librarian. Please check these instructions.
If
you are a MAC user, we will be able to send you web pages, but you have to click on the links in the chat window to see these pages.
Opera, AOL's browser, and WebTV are not supported.
To avoid getting disconnected:
Don't bookmark (add to favorites) or print anything during the session. After the session, you will receive a list of live links via email, which will allow
you to go back and visit all
of the pages the librarian showed you.
Use the forward, back, and refresh buttons provided in the software - not the ones on your browser.
Use the "start" menu or taskbar shorcut to open a second browser while connected. Using control "n" or File "new" will end the session.
Clear your cache. For instructions, please visit the help section of your respective browser.
Thank you for using our online live reference service!
